Laser Therapy
Laser Therapy, or “photobiomodulation” refers to the use of specific wavelengths of light to create therapeutic benefits in a targeted tissue. It has been proven to facilitate the cellular activity of the targeted tissues resulting in decreased discomfort, reduced inflammation, improved recovery times, and accelerates the healing process and tissue repair rate. The laser photons stimulate the mitochondria in the tissues cells to facilitate the above-mentioned processes. Once these cells have been “stimulated” they continue to remain at a higher activity level for up to 18-20 hours. Thus, your cellular rehabilitation continues long after your rehabilitation treatment has been completed it is an excellent form of treatment of various tendonopathies as well as ligamentous injuries as well as osteoarthtric lesions.
These are the most common treatment types:
- Continuous wave laser treatment (soft tissue)
- Pulsed wave laser therapy (joint)
